For a little while, former Vikings receiver Dontae Fleming was looking like he could threaten for a depth receiver job in Minnesota. In the end, he fell short, but Fleming is still chasing his NFL career, albeit in a new location.
Aaron Wilson, an NFL reporter who focuses primarily on the Houston Texans, does his work for KPRC2. Check out his quick update about Fleming’s next opportunity: “#Giants sign Dontae Fleming to practice squad.” Quick and to the point, Wilson’s update clarifies that the young fella is going to keep his pro career rolling in the Big Apple. In so doing, the WR is yet again going to be catching the football from J.J. McCarthy.
Former Vikings Receiver Dontae Fleming Lands Giants Gig
New York has a true WR1 at the top of the receiver position: Malik Nabers.
The 23-year-old pass catcher got chosen at No. 6 in the 2024 NFL Draft. He missed most of 2025 due to an injury but proved as a rookie he could play fantastic football. His ’24 season shows 109 catches for 1,204 yards and 7 touchdowns. Not too shabby, especially since New York hasn’t been known as a hotbed of football competence in recent seasons.

Where Dontae Fleming could help is within a depth capacity. Consider the broader receiver depth chart:
- WR1 Malik Nabers
- WR2 Darnell Mooney
- WR3 Malachi Fields
- WR4 Charlie Jones
- WR5 Braxton Berrios (IR)
- WR6 Calvin Austin III (IR)
- WR7 Gunner Olszewski (IR)
- WR8 Jalin Hyatt (PS)
- WR9 Dalen Cambre (PS)
- WR10 Dontae Fleming (PS)

As the list suggests, it’s a crowded position group. Fleming will therefore need to prove that he’s more capable than the average player looking to soak up snaps for John Harbaugh’s team.
The 24-year-old Fleming stands at 6’2″ and 180 pounds. On a basic level, that’s a build that inspires some intrigue since football coaches will always be interested in making room for a long burner to flex out wide. Doing so boasts the potential of hitting a kill shot on a deep pass on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Minnesota has been making waves for some moves at receiver.
In particular, there was the decision to add Odell Beckham Jr. The veteran isn’t the elite talent that he was back in those prime Giants days, but he’s going to function as a support and mentor to Justin Jefferson. Moreover, the practice squad has added Jeshaun Jones, a move to bring the depth option back after being booted from the 53-man roster after the Week 4 game.
Of course, maybe the top story to monitor is Justin Jefferson’s health. Good chance, folks, that he gets out there in Week 5, but Minnesota has opted to maintain the facade of uncertainty.
The Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants aren’t scheduled to play each other in 2026. In theory, though, the teams could square off in the playoffs.
